BeechWelcome to Beech Class

In Year One, we have a conscientious and dedicated team who believe in planning and teaching a curriculum that continues to support an Early Years approach. We continue to work in partnership with parents and build on the good relationships that have already been started.

Before children enter our Year One class, the Reception and Year One team work together to plan and provide a number of activities over a period of time that supports the transition process. This is imperative in making sure that children move from one year group to the next feeling happy and secure.

The Year One curriculum is planned from the National Curriculum. We recognise that Year One children are still some of our youngest learners in the school and still need a play based approach to learning. We therefore continue their learning journey by still following the Early Years philosophy whilst building on the knowledge and skills previously taught. Expectations will increase however, and children will be set a number of challenges and tasks. In Year One all staff will continue to intervene in children’s play for periods of ‘sustained and shared thinking’ to promote high quality play and challenge children’s learning to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Our aim in Year One is to create autonomous and independent learners who have a thirst and drive to learn.
