On this page you will find out all you need to know about our curriculum at Rectory Farm Primary School.

We follow the National Curriculum which is a set of subjects and standards used by most schools in England. It covers what subjects are taught and the standards children should reach in each subject.

Our children are immersed in a curriculum that is broad, balanced, exciting and creative. Our teaching staff are committed to an innovative, flexible and reflective approach to teaching, which ensures all pupils can fulfill their true potential.

Our curriculum aims to:

  • Help our pupils to become independent, enquiring and collaborative learners.
  • Develop happy, motivated life-long learners equipped for the future.
  • Nurture healthy, caring and respectful individuals.
  • Create thinking individuals, with strong values, who make a positive contribution to the world.
  • Provide challenge, enabling children to reach their true potential.
  • Be inclusive and diverse allowing a range of opportunities for children to find their element.
  • Help children develop a growth mindset and an excitement for all the opportunities which the world has to offer.

This quote underpins the ethos for our curriculum:

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." W B Yeats

Our curriculum aims to spark a love of learning in all – ignite the fire so that children become active learners and embark on a lifelong journey of learning.

The importance of knowledge

As a school, we realise the great importance of children building a strong core knowledge through which they are encouraged to make solid connections to their existing learning. We understand that unless knowledge is retained in the long-term memory, then nothing has been learnt. Our staff have carefully crafted our curriculum to enable children to revisit previous knowledge, so developing a strong knowledge base that will remain with them for life.

If you have any questions regarding the curriculum we teach, then please contact the school directly.
